South Kitchener - New School Architect

Location: Waterloo, ON
Client: Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB)

ward99 architects was invited by the Waterloo Region District School Board to participate in the RFP process to design a new JK-8 elementary school. The proposed design was inspired by the richness of the Doon South Community and Homer Watson paintings. The main elevation of the school attempts to capture the essence of Homer Watson’s paintings with the vegetation of the green roofs reflected in the playful curtain walls. Break-out areas in the corridors were proposed to encourage collaborative learning environments. To promote sustainability and innovation, green roofs, solar walls, and panels were proposed.
