South Fletcher’s Branch Library
Location: Brampton, Ontario
Client: Brampton Library
The South Fletcher’s Branch Library project is an interior and exterior Net Zero renovation project for Brampton Library. The project involved a complete renovation of the existing 13,400 sq ft library space within the Susan Fennell Sportsplex, modernizing South Fletcher’s Library to support the growing needs of the community.
The interior renovation consists of a complete revitalization to incorporate a new flexible, versatile floor plan that will grow with the needs of the facility. This redesigned library space features an improved collections space, optimized and efficient staff/administrative spaces, multiple quiet study rooms, a glass enclosed Teen Lounge, an open children’s area, a new exterior book return area, and two adaptable multi-purpose rooms, with one providing separate after-hours access.
The library façades were replaced, creating a modern and inviting street presence that is distinct from the main community centre. Previously, the library had limited exterior windows, permitting minimal natural light into the space and reducing sight lines into the library. The new facade provides floor-to-ceiling, triple-glazed curtain wall to create a transparent and welcoming library space. Sun and heat transfer are controlled with the inclusion of new sunshades and Solera translucent glazing. The facade was further modernized with colourful exterior cement panels reflecting the branding colours of Brampton Library and bold “Library” signs.
