Seneca Trail Public School Childcare Addition
Location: Oshawa, Ontario
Client: Durham District School Board
The Seneca Trail Public School project involves an addition and renovation to an existing elementary public school for the Durham District School Board. The one storey addition provides a new childcare wing for the school, with required administration and classroom amenities for toddlers and pre-school children. The space includes a new accessible front entrance leading to a corridor which connects the childcare wing to the school while providing the proper separation to allow the wing to operate independently from the school. The new building addition includes three classrooms: an infant room, a toddler room, and a preschool room. The toddler and preschool rooms are connected by a shared student washroom. The infant room includes a sleeping room and play space. The childcare facility also provides dedicated stroller parking, a full kitchen, laundry room, storage room, staff office space, staff lunchroom, and a barrier-free washroom.
The new childcare accommodates flexible play space as well as tailored programming for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children. Each room provides storage, access to washrooms, and play spaces with connection to exterior play areas.
The adjacent exterior play area integrates play structures and greenery into a fenced, secure, and easily monitored play environment. New parking spaces, both standard and barrier-free, were added specifically for patrons using the childcare facility.
